Effective use of Activon Tulle for the treatment of a long standing bilateral leg ulcer

Mrs I is an 85 yr old lady who has been known to the DN team for 5 years with long standing, non healing, bilateral leg ulcers. The ulcers have been shown to be of mixed aetiology and have been unresponsive to many different treatments and dressings.

She is a type 2 diabetic which is well controlled. She is known to be MRSA positive despite many attempts to remove the bacteria, the wounds seem to be colonised with it.

Treatment with Activon Tulle as the primary dressing, gauze and retention bandages began early January 2006. The DN team witnessed the layer of slough begin to fade and good healthy granulating tissue began to grow, with several areas (as illustrated in the pics)  epithiliasing and others healing completely

The next set of swabs taken cam back negative and the left leg has now completely healed.

The wounds were traced, measurements were as follows:

Left leg:

13/01/06          6cm²
24/02/06          4cm²
27/04/06          1cm²

No results available for Right leg ulcer measurements.
